YMMV, but what I've seen — Zigbee works great for this use case.
SystemAdmin: I've been working with this for several years and it's been pretty solid. The notifications work well if you understand correctly.

Just got this working! The trick was configuring the MQTT broker properly. Should have asked sooner.
